Strategy Time - Comments Needed

We are playing in a $1/$2 NLHE 7 handed home game. Max buy-in is $200 and we have just re-bought. Relevant stack sizes are as follows:

CO: over $200, has us covered
SB: $100
BB (hero): $200

It's folded to the cutoff who limps. SB completes and we check from the BB with 8s8h.

Comment 1 here:???

Flop comes Jc10c8c. We flopped bottom set on an all club board.

SB checks, we bet $10, CO raises to 30, SB re-raises to $90.

Comment 2 here: What is our play???

Players in the hand are fairly solid.

After some comments I will add additional detail.

  1. i dunno. SB has 10 more behind? you're kinda sammiched. you are 65%ish vs the good draws and things like sneaky overpairs with a club. 35%ish against a made fl/str8. absolutely crushed vs overset. if you could act after the CO, it'd be easier, because of the sidepot and knowing it's gonna be 3 way with a hedge. but i in no way hate a fold. if you smooth, the CO could drop and you're 100 into probable 65% dog situ. if it weren;t three way and getting crazy i could call ez-ier. i know the three way pot would make up for the odds but you dont know if it's 3 way yet.

ouch. i fold like a biatch

  2. For me, you are in an unraised pot. This leaves you with only very limited information. Since this is live, I'd definitely slow down and be in information gathering mode. Counting out chips and paying attention to the reactions of the CO would be useful.

Hrbek hit the numbers on the head which is why you need more info. A made hand and you are on a full house draw. A non-made hand and you are ahead. You aren't crushing anyone.

I'd definitely try to find out how strong the CO is.

  3. I do not raise in comment section number 1. the only reason to raise with 88 is to thin the field and I don't think that is happening. So I am hoping to flop a set.

Now I get what I want and I have to fold cause that board is very scary and I am a pussy

  4. i really don't like going broke in a limped pot but i'm almost never folding a set in a 7-handed home game. i shove the flop in that situation and reload if i'm coolered or don't improve.

  5. Raise pre-flop. If they are limping their hands probably aren't great and I'd rather have control of the hand.

We may take the hand down pre-flop. We may be able to steal with a continuation bet.

Of course if these players aren't the type to fold then this isn't as good of a play but you said they are solid.

  6. Your flop bet is kind of big. This kind of screams that you have a made hand without the flush or a big flush draw. I'd probably bet 5-6.

After the raise and re-raise I fold. One of them has a set, straight, or flush too often - all of which crush you.

You showed strength by betting out. SB check re-raised. He thinks you probably have something. He knows that CO almost certainly has something. I think this is very seldom a bluff or a hand worse than yours on this board.
